The Antiques Fair Delft

General Information

On Wednesday 26th September till Sunday 30 September the Antiques Fair Delft (The Netherlands) will be held in Museum Het Prinsenhof. Thirty-five mainly Dutch antique dealers will present their collection. Next to the renowned antique dealers we also encourage young starters to participate. The small-scale art fair creates an informal atmosphere. The Antique Fair is meant to attract traditional collectors and art appreciators who enjoy the atmosphere of the historic surroundings of Delft and the Museum Het Prinsenhof.

History
In post-war Netherlands a group of antique dealers struggled to bring back the interest in art and antique. By creating an art and antique fair they tried to bring their passion and business to the attention of the masses. In 1949, Delft was chosen to host the first Antique Fair. Steadily the fair grew in size and became famous throughout Europe. But, other art and antique fairs opened up their doors and Delft, after 44 years, closed theirs in 1992. In 2010, after 18 years Patrick M.A. Buch and Johan D. Rissik took the initiative to re-open the Antique Fair in Delft.

The logo of the Antique Fair Delft originates from the book 'The Old Curiosity Shop' by Charles Dickens. On the woodcut is shown how Mr. Quilp (the tyrannical neighbour of the main characters Nelly and her grandfather) carries out the interior of grandfather's 'Curiosity Shop' which by then is bankrupt.

Organisation
The initiative to bring back the Antique Fair Delft was taken back in 2008 by Patrick M.A. Buch. Together with Johan D. Rissik he started the 'Foundation Antique Fair Delft' on august 25th 2009. This foundation is created to support the all organisational aspects of the fair.
